Thorough Dental Exams for Pets in Murfreesboro

Pet dental care is an important yet often overlooked aspect of caring for a cat or dog. If you own an animal, you may know that they get stinky breath from time to time, but you might not know that this could be a symptom of a dental problem. Taking your pet to a veterinary professional can help prevent serious dental problems from developing into health issues, such as heart or liver disease. At Barfield Animal Hospital, our vet is committed to offering excellent pet dentistry. We perform dental services, including cleanings and extractions.

We also offer a full line of dental care products from toothbrushes and toothpaste to dental chews and dietary supplements.

Caring for Your Furry Friend’s Smile

According to American Veterinary Dental College, over 80% of dogs over the age of 3 have active dental disease. When you go to the dentist, they may warn that without proper dental care, you are at risk of developing gingivitis. A regular teeth cleaning and examination is typically enough to ward it off, though. Unfortunately, animals also experience worn teeth, fractured teeth and the accumulation of plaque that can lead to gingivitis. Just like you get your teeth cleaned, your pet should have his or hers cleaned, too. This will prevent the development of dental damage that causes disease and discomfort for your pet.

Caring for a pet can be difficult, but the professionals at Barfield Animal Hospital make it easier. We take your pet’s health and well being off your mind through exceptional service, professional treatment and thorough care. We are known as the top veterinary provider in Murfreesboro for a reason. LASER LIGHT THERAPY

Laser therapy is used worldwide and has become a routine procedure providing high-quality care for pets. The application of laser therapy is a powerful tool in providing care through relief of pain and swelling, as a local and systemic anti-inflammatory mediator, as a superior method of healing wounds or injuries, as a stimulation of the acupuncture points (needleless acupuncture), and as the solution to many persistent dermatological disorders. Long recovery periods and extended treatment times will soon be a thing of the past.

We are committed to providing pets and their owners with the most effective and innovative care available.

Providing Comprehensive Chiropractic Care for Your Pet’s Health

If you are in need of a skilled pet chiropractor to help your pet recover from a sickness or injury, we can help. We utilize manual manipulation and therapeutic methods to rebuild each pet’s strength, pinpoint the problem and work toward healthiness again. This can be a long-term process, but we have helped many pets regain movement. Perhaps the most important effect, however, is the ability of chiropractic care to alleviate a pet’s pain. Pets who become lethargic often do so because of physical discomfort, but therapy and chiropractic care can defend against these effects and rid your pet of pain.

Keep Your Animals Healthy & Safe

It can be hard to see your pet go from active and healthy to lethargic and weak. Even worse, still, is thinking that there may not be a solution. Barfield Animal Hospital has several treatment options, including chiropractic services. We serve the community of Murfreesboro by satisfying these and other pet health care needs. If you are ready to see your pet make a full recovery, you can trust us to offer the care needed. For more information on our services, pet boarding or to set up an appointment, you can call us at (615) 217-8484.

BOARDING SERVICES

Boarding
It’s understandable that you may hesitate to trust anybody else in Murfreesboro with your pets, but at Barfield Animal Hospital, we offer premium boarding services that are managed by highly trained professionals. Boarding your pet will allow them all the same privileges they have at home.

Your pets will enjoy scheduled meals, regular exercise, attention and affection.

Boarding Can Actually Benefit Your Animals

Some pet owners are surprised to learn that boarding their pets can actually have benefits. Many dogs, for example, do not interact with other dogs regularly. In a kennel, they will have the opportunity to play, interact and exercise with other dogs, and this can be great for their health and attitude. Many animals also simply enjoy being pampered. You can trust us to offer the absolute best pet getaway available.

Trust Our Professionals to Care for Your Furry Friend

Whether you’re scheduling exterminators or taking a vacation, there will be times when you need to entrust your pets to somebody else’s care. This can be difficult because you only want the most caring people to come into contact with them. You don’t need to worry about the quality of care when you entrust your pets to the boarding services at Barfield Animal Hospital in Murfreesboro. We care for each cat or dog individually and ensure they are treated exceptionally. For more information on boarding arrangements call us at (615) 217-8484.

IN-HOUSE DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES

Diagnostic Services

We provide a variety of diagnostic and treatment services. Our in-house laboratory equipment allows us to perform many diagnostics, including:

  • Diagnostic cytology
  • Ultrasonography
  • Digital radiography
  • Infectious disease testing
  • Parasite screening
  • Complete blood analysis
  • Detection of bleeding disorders

Even in the case of more extensive testing, we are able to use outside laboratories, which typically provide results in a short period of time. Our state-of-the-art in-house digital X-ray machine allows high-quality radiographs and the ability to email them to a board-certified radiologist.

SURGICAL SERVICES

Our operating room is equipped to handle any pet emergency. We offer a full range of soft tissue and orthopedic surgical services. The operating room is isolated from the rest of the hospital to minimize the risk of infection. Surgical instruments are sterilized after every procedure. We also have an electrosurgical unit, which is a device that acts as a scalpel in certain surgeries and can significantly reduce bleeding and pain.

If there is a surgery we are unable to perform or if we do not have the proper equipment necessary, we will refer you to a board-certified surgeon. We also have a great working relationship with a mobile veterinarian that has the ability to perform many of the more advanced surgical procedures here at Barfield Animal Hospital.

ANESTHESIA

Personalized Veterinary Care in Murfreesboro

Anesthesia is something we take seriously, and we take all precautions to have a safe and smooth anesthetic time and recovery. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork can be performed the same day as the anesthesia procedure. This is important to determine metabolic and organ health prior to anesthetic medications. An IV catheter is used and your pet is able to have IV fluids with a fluid pump and an IV fluid warmer during the entire procedure. This also allows us to give IV medications if necessary.

Anesthetic medications are tailored to the individual and include both injectable and inhalant medications. Our monitoring equipment includes blood pressure, ECG, capnography (CO2) and pulse oximetry, and we will have a veterinary assistant with your pet during and after the procedure.

Your pet is kept warm during procedures with a heated water blanket. Certain anesthetic medications will continue to provide pain control after the patient recovers from anesthesia; we also have the ability to provide additional pain relief through injectable medications to ensure your pet is as comfortable as possible.
